About Stephi
I became a doula in 2013 when I realized it was the only job I'd ever wanted. I took my first training with CAPPA, and have since trained with multiple doula organizations and highly-skilled doulas. I continue to train and build my skills every year. I love working with families who break the mold--who build their family on their own terms with love and courage. Birth doula support with me looks like this:
Minimum of 3 in-person or virtual meetings, plus monthly check-ins
Education - explanations of terminology and procedures as they come up in care provider appointments
Planning - budgeting for care, writing a birth plan, and planning for postpartum
Guidance - prioritizing your goals with actionable steps
Research - help finding the best available evidence-based information for your unique pregnancy
Resources - tools to help you plan and learn
Referrals - introduce you to chiropractors, lactation consultants, massage therapists, acupuncturists, and other care providers whose specialties support your goals
Physical and emotional support during birth process
Suggestions for position changes and movement
Support partner(s) in their role
Guidance adhering to birth plan or making changes as necessary
Pre-op and post-op support for Cesarean birth
Immediate postpartum care
Newborn feeding help
In-home follow-up visit
Care philosophy
All birthing people deserve care that is informed, evidenced-based, and centered on their needs as individuals. I'm only invested in you having access to everything you need as you make decisions about your body, your baby, and your birth. Birth is unpredictable, but doula support is constant. I respect your agency, advocate for your autonomy, and help you find all the options. Zero judgment.

What clients say
"Before meeting Chelsey, my idea of a quintessential doula was a crunchy hippie who smelled like essential oils and shrieked when you said the word epidural like you mentioned Voldemort. I wanted a medicated birth, and because of that alone, I never thought I'd have a doula. Little did I know, a doula that is truly doing her job is supportive of whatever birth plan the mother wants. It is primarily her (or his) job to support the mother, including if she wants medication. Chelsey provided me with valuable information to support my entire pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey. She helped me with my diet, my baby registry, my mental health, and frequently checked in after my doctor's appointments. She educated me on what to expect during the birth so that I had less anxiety surrounding what I knew nothing about at the time. She also met with my husband and I on how he could help me through contractions at home before I went to the hospital. While my husband would have loved to play the traditional role of my birth coach, he was extremely grateful that Chelsey filled that responsibility and took the pressure off of him. She was supportive of my birth plan and I’d hire her again in a heartbeat as a critical member of my birth team should the need arise again."

About Holly
I got bit by the birth bug when I began researching during my first pregnancy. Usually when I get on a roll with something fascinating, I need to be jolted away before I’ll stop on my own. Well, despite many a jolt, I never stopped, because it seemed the path was leading me to the world of birth work — a place full of mystery, intrigue, beauty, and heart. Kind of hard to resist! I took Birth Boot Camp classes during my second pregnancy and was so impressed by the curriculum. It’s thorough, modern, and it appealed just as well to my husband. I had so much fun as a student in class, I thought how I’d love to become an instructor one day! Becoming a doula felt like a natural progression in this journey as I love to be “on the ground” in a birth setting, in the heart of the action, as well as in front of a class. As a doula, I love sharing resources and information because knowledge is power! I also encourage my clients to dive deep in introspection, ask lots of questions, grow confidence in their autonomy, and get clarity on what they truly want. There is so much to gain from taking accountability -- and I am here to help things run more smoothly along your journey. Together, we aim to manifest your special vision for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Care philosophy
I believe you already hold immense resources of birth wisdom within — a knowing that this journey is meant for you right now, in just this way. But I also believe in preparing for the hard work of labor, and in serving as your guide as you embark on this incredible journey. However your story looks, I acknowledge it is your own, and I am here for you with compassion, respect, and love.

"Holly was my doula and birthing class instructor. My husband and I took her comprehensive birthing class which helped us to prepare for the birth of our first baby. The class covered a lot of important topics including what labor is like and comfort measures. I had a homebirth with a long labor and the comfort measures really helped me to cope with it. As my doula, Holly was supportive and encouraging. She helped with counter pressure when I had back labor, provided emotional support during transition, and made sure I stayed hydrated. Her presence was very calming. If I have another baby, I will hire her again!!"

About Alexandra
My doula journey began in 2008 after the birth of my own child. Although my experience was incredible, the sequence of events lead me to question how things could have been different. I then began researching and learning all that I could about the options birthing people and their partners had during birth. My goal then was to help support families anyway I could and ensure they never felt alone, pressured, or without choice; and 12 years later, it remains the same. My attitude toward birth is very modern and balanced. There is no one size fits all approach to people so there can’t be when welcoming a new human to the world. Regardless of your birth choices, I will support you and ensure you are respected no matter what. Hospital or home, in water or in a bed, midwife or doctor I will stand next to you and your partner with kind eyes and a calm touch. I am also currently adding a Hypnobabies certification to better serve my clients! Whether you have searched for a doula for your fertility, birth, or postpartum period (or all 3!) you may be overwhelmed with the list of questions you would like answered. This is completely normal and I’m happy to chat with you and answer any questions you may have.
Care philosophy
I am a modern doula who is experienced and prepared to support families of all shapes and sizes. I believe all birthing people have the right to be respected, heard, and supported.

I hired Krystah for post partum care in the hospital for two nights. Hiring her was absolutely the best decision I made. Krystah is very personable and professional. She is very knowledgeable about alternative medicine and caring for new borns. She was very punctual and responsive. About Tania
Tania has been preparing birthing couples since 2013. Unhappy with the support she received during her first birth, her sister encouraged her to take an independent childbirth class. Her second birth was healing and her third birth was empowering. This started her passion for safe, natural when possible, and empowering birth. She has since become trained in Spinning Babies, Rebozo use during labor, and Neonatal Resuscitation. She has taught almost 200 couples and attended dozens of births, either as doula support or as a midwife birth assistant. Tania is married to her best friend of 10 years and they have 3 vivacious children together. When she is not reading articles about birth, she can be found chasing her kids around the park or folding laundry. It’s a toss up.
Care philosophy
My goal is to empower the birthing woman/person/couple with information. I inform you of all your options so you can make the best decisions for you and your family. I teach and listen, really listen, without judgement and imposing my views. This is your journey and I’m here to support you!

About Kathleen
I meet with clients regularly, throughout their pregnancy and check in on my clients, on average, once per week. I believe the key to a great birth experience is in preparation, so we do a lot of work before Labor Day. Labor is a vulnerable time for both the birthing person and their intimate support team, honoring that through relationship building is my primary goal. I work closely with your medical team to ensure you are informed and consented about all procedures. My goal is for each family to love the day their baby was born and remember it joyously. I grew up in and around Houston for the most part. I met my husband when I was 21 and married him when I was 25. We have birthed four children together and have three surviving children living at home with us now. My first daughter was born in 2001 during tropical storm Allison in the medical center and was with us for twelve short weeks. We loved her as hard as we could while she was here and she has forever changed the landscape of our lives. We are grateful for every moment we had and she taught us to love deeply and with abandon. We were lucky enough to welcome our second child in 2003 at the same hospital. With this birth I was able to focus and really work toward achieving the birth experience I knew I wanted. Our third child was born five years later at a freestanding birth center – my first water birth with a doula. And our happy last came along a few years later in 2011 – born in our home under the supervision of a loving home birth midwife and four amazing doulas – four. I love to spend time with my family traveling, but mostly we stay home, play at the park, cook, go bowling, watch movies and read. I love to read. I have two fur babies that are pretty sure they are my real babies and those humans are usurping their position. I am one of the luckiest people in the world.
Care philosophy
I meet families where they are. Each family is unique, with needs and desires that are specific to them. I hope to support families, without judgment by getting to know them. I believe prenatal education and relationship building are among the greatest tools a doula can possess. My goal is to support every family without judgment, creating a safe space for you to decide what is important.

What clients say
Kathleen was my doula for 3 unmedicated VBACs in a hospital setting - all of which were high risk pregnancies. After having an unplanned and traumatic C-section with my 1st pregnancy, I knew I needed to hire a doula for any subsequent pregnancies. Kathleen helped me process my c-section and validated my feelings. She worked with my husband and myself in several home and office visits prior to all births. She offered great mental, emotional and physical support during the entire process. She worked very collaboratively with my OBGYN and was well respected by all hospital staff. Kathleen was my person during all labors (and my husband is grateful for her as well). She always knows the right reassuring things to say as needed and the physical touch to give. She always knew what I needed - even when I didn’t know what I needed. She is truly magical in helping me achieve 3 unmedicated and beautiful VBACs.

About Katherine
I sought to become a doula when I was pregnant with my youngest - I feel in love with birth itself and read everything I could to prepare my mind and body the best I could. After walking through intense trauma from his birth (situational, not medical), it only solidified my resolve to become a doula to come alongside other young moms or single moms or women in abusive situations, to support them in this precious time, when no one else will be their voice. I live and support others in Bay Area Houston, mostly through hosting virtual birth and postpartum courses. Find out more about me at www.simplenaturalmama.com

Alyssa exceeded our expectations! She understood our birth plan and eased our concerns and worries we had about giving birth as well! Even though everything was pretty much virtual when it came time to give birth it was like she was in the room with us! I loved how she made sure to include my husband and when we found out due to COVID that she couldn’t be in the room she trained my husband very well on what to do during labor. She is very knowledgeable on all aspects of pregnancy and birth. What really impressed us is that she understood and acknowledged the disparities that existed with me being an African American woman and even gave me tips on how to stand up for myself while in the hospital to be sure that I receive the greatest care available! She is definitely an expert and we love her! She’s like family! We would definitely recommend her to anyone who’s looking for a doula! We will definitely use her again for our future third ?

Doula Services: FAQs
A doula is a trained professional who provides personalized emotional, physical, and informational support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. Unlike medical professionals, doulas do not perform clinical tasks. Instead, they focus on empowering and supporting individuals through their unique birthing journey.
When you hire a birth doula, you can expect continuous, compassionate care tailored to your needs. From pregnancy through labor and delivery, they work closely with you to understand your preferences, alleviate anxieties, and help you make informed decisions. Doulas provide evidence-based information about birthing techniques, pain management options, and medical interventions to guide you in creating a birth experience aligned with your goals.
During labor, a birth doula offers hands-on physical support, such as massage, counterpressure, and guidance on effective birthing positions. They also help you manage discomfort through relaxation and breathing techniques, ensuring a calm and empowering environment. Importantly, they serve as your advocate, helping communicate your birth plan to the medical team so your preferences are understood and respected.
Doulas also support your partner by involving them in the process, offering practical tips for comfort measures, and stepping in so they can rest when needed. After the birth, your doula remains by your side during the postpartum period, assisting with bonding, breastfeeding, or simply ensuring you feel comfortable and cared for.
In essence, a doula’s unwavering support transforms childbirth into a more positive, confident, and empowering experience, allowing you to focus on welcoming your baby with joy.
There are two ways you can hire a doula through Meela in Houston, TX.
You can browse through the available doulas in Houston, TX and send the doulas you are interested in a message, introducing yourself and setting up an interview. We recommend interviewing at least three before hiring your top doula.
You can also hire a doula in Houston, TX in three easy steps:

It is up to you whether the certified doula can remain in the operating room during the procedure.

Doulas are there to support you in your desired birth preferences, whether that is a preference for natural, non-medicated, assisted, C-section or anything else.
Certified doulas can also act as a liaison between you and hospital staff regarding your childbirth expectations and preferences. Doulas are non-medical professionals who provide emotional, physical and educational support, while also offering actionable advice and guidance to new parents about how to nurture their baby.
A midwife is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) or a certified midwife (CM). CNMs are medical professionals that are certified and licensed by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. CMs are also certified, but they do not have nursing backgrounds.
Doulas are not medical professionals; they focus on the emotional support for the parents and the family before, during, and after the birth of the baby. Their job is to provide information, advice, and support to the family not diagnose any medical conditions or provide medical advice.
